Sustainability at Cream

Big ideas, real impact.
Good hair shouldn't cost the earth. Cream is a proud member of Sustainable Salons, which means up to 95% of the waste we create, from foils and colour to the hair swept off the floor, is collected and given a second life rather than sent to landfill. It is a quiet part of running a salon that we take seriously, and it has been part of how we work in Fitzroy for years.
-
Almost everything. Through Sustainable Salons, the materials that move through a busy colour salon are sorted and repurposed instead of binned:
Hair clippings, which can be turned into booms that soak up oil spills in our waterways
Foils and metals, melted down and remade
Colour tubes, leftover colour and chemicals, processed responsibly instead of going down the drain
Paper, plastics and packaging
Ponytails, donated to be made into wigs for people experiencing medical hair loss
-
Recycling salon waste keeps tonnes of material out of landfill and out of our waterways, and the proceeds support local communities and people in need.
Choosing an eco-conscious, sustainable hair salon is a small, easy way to make your regular cut or colour a little kinder to the planet, no change to your routine required.
-
A small Sustainable Salons fee is added to your service. It goes directly towards collecting and recycling the waste from your appointment, it is what makes everything above possible, and we are always happy to explain it.
-
Cream is listed in the Sustainable Salons directory of eco-conscious salons across Australia and New Zealand.
